Description
Tatari is on a mission to revolutionize TV advertising. Founded in 2016 to help transform the antiquated world of TV advertising through the intelligent application of AI and machine learning, Tatari helps some of the world’s fastest growing brands including Chime, Calm, Tecovas, Manscaped, Saatva, and Liquid I.V., reach their customers using linear and streaming TV ads. Our platform combines sophisticated media buying with proprietary analytics to turn TV advertising into an automated, digital-like experience, enabling businesses of any size to advertise on TV.
That approach has earned Tatari broad industry recognition, including being named Best CTV AdTech Platform in the 8th annual MarTech Breakthrough Awards, as well as honors from Digiday (Best Connected TV Platform), AdExchanger (Most Innovative TV Advertising Technology), and Business Insider (Hottest AdTech Companies). Tatari has also been recognized as the Best Place to Work by Inc. Magazine. Backed by an executive team of former founders and senior leaders from companies including Shazam, TrueCar, AdapTV, LiveRail, Amazon, Google, Meta, Microsoft, and Yahoo, Tatari continues to scale rapidly as TV advertising enters its next major era.
Overview
We are looking for a Staff QA Engineer to join the Buying and Optimization team. In this role, you will work alongside engineering leadership to raise the bar for testing practices, set best practices, and scale our automation frameworks. You will have the opportunity to partner with product leaders to ensure correctness, reliability, and smooth user experience across Tatari’s buying platform and adjacent services.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain Tatari’s end-to-end (E2E) test automation framework in Playwright. Write a large share of the core framework code, shared utilities, and the hardest test suites yourself.
- Set the technical direction for test automation, including tooling, architecture, and testing patterns, and turn it into reference code and design docs others can follow.
- Write and improve unit and integration tests across the stack (TypeScript/Jest, Python/pytest). Build the patterns, fixtures, and helpers that make good testing the easiest path for QA engineers and feature teams.
- Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines; fix flaky tests, speed up test runs, improve pipeline observability, and build reliable release gates.
- Build tooling for data validation and backend verification, including SQL-based data integrity checks, API contract and response validation, and test data setup for sandbox and staging environments.
- Do hands-on exploratory testing on the highest-risk workflows, and review test plans and automation code written by other engineers.
- Act as the senior technical voice for QA. Give engineering and product leadership risk assessments and coverage data to inform release decisions.
- Raise the testing bar across engineering by mentoring, pairing, and writing best-practice docs. Take part in technical interviews for QA candidates.
Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience as an SDET, QA Automation Engineer, or Software Engineer with a strong focus on automated testing and QA methodologies
- Expert in automated E2E testing (Playwright preferred, Cypress or Selenium considered).
- Solid TypeScript and Python skills (Jest, pytest, or similar), plus familiarity with React applications and bonus for client-side web applications. Proficient in SQL.
- A track record of building test automation frameworks for UIs, APIs, and microservices from scratch and scaling them as teams grew.
- Proven ability to set testing strategy and standards for a team, and drive their adoption across multiple engineers and projects.
- Strong communicator, whether its presenting to engineering and product leadership or mentoring/coaching other engineers.
- Strategic mindset: able to prioritize testing investment against coverage and risk, and make the case for QA roadmap decisions.
- Detail focused, strong analytical skills, a knack for edge-case discovery, and a genuine commitment to engineering excellence.
Benefits
- Total compensation ($170,000 - 200,000/annually)
- Equity compensation
- Health insurance coverage for you and your dependents

About this role
Tatari's Buying and Optimization team is seeking a Staff QA Engineer to own the testing strategy and execution for their TV advertising platform. This is a hands-on leadership role where you'll design and build Tatari's end-to-end test automation framework in Playwright, write core framework code and the most complex test suites, and set the technical direction for testing practices across the engineering organization. You'll work with both QA engineers and feature teams to establish patterns and tooling that make good testing the standard, while also conducting high-risk exploratory testing and providing leadership with risk assessments to inform release decisions.
The role demands deep expertise in test automation—7+ years as an SDET or QA automation engineer—with strong proficiency in Playwright, TypeScript, Python, SQL, and familiarity with React applications. Beyond technical chops, you'll need to be a strategic thinker who can prioritize testing investments against coverage and risk, mentor other engineers, and communicate clearly with product and engineering leadership. This is an in-office position in Los Angeles requiring two days per week on-site, offered as a contract role with compensation between $170,000 and $200,000 annually, plus equity, health benefits, and professional development support.
