About this role
Axis Automation is seeking Mechanical Engineers at Levels 2 and 3 to design and develop automation systems and robotic equipment at their Walker, Michigan facility. You'll work across a collaborative team—mechanical, electrical, controls, and technical staff—to move projects from concept through validation. The role centers on CAD modeling (SolidWorks), design analysis via stress simulation and motion studies, prototype testing, and iterative refinement. You'll also create technical documentation, support on-site troubleshooting, and contribute to delivering solutions on schedule and within budget.
Level 2 candidates should have 1–4 years of mechanical design experience; Level 3 requires a minimum of 4 years in mechanical design and automation engineering. Both levels need proficiency with 3D CAD, working knowledge of GD&T, and experience building comprehensive design packages. A bachelor's degree in engineering is preferred, as is hands-on experience designing automated machinery and familiarity with robotic simulation software. Level 3 roles carry additional responsibility for leading small projects independently, reviewing CAD data, mentoring junior engineers and interns, and presenting designs to internal teams, customers, and suppliers.
Compensation ranges from $70,000–$85,000 for Level 2 and $85,000–$100,000 for Level 3. This is a full-time, in-office position.
