About this role
Rocket EMS is seeking an SMT Lead for second shift production in Carson City. You'll manage the surface-mount assembly line day-to-day, coordinating operator assignments, equipment setup and troubleshooting, and quality oversight across screen printers, SPI systems, pick-and-place machines, and reflow ovens. The role demands hands-on technical knowledge—you'll verify component loadouts, run first-article checks, monitor for defects, and escalate issues to Engineering or Maintenance when needed. You'll also train operators on workmanship standards, ensure compliance with IPC-A-610 Class 2 and 3 requirements, and drive continuous improvement to reduce changeover time and repeat defects.
This is a contract position paying $24–$28 per hour and requires a minimum of three years of hands-on SMT production experience in contract manufacturing, with direct experience operating the core equipment. Prior leadership as an SMT Lead, senior operator, or trainer is preferred, as is IPC-A-610 certification and familiarity with Fuji, Panasonic, or Juki equipment. A high school diploma is required; technical training in electronics manufacturing strengthens your candidacy. Note that the role may involve access to export-controlled technical data, so you must be eligible under U.S. export-control laws or able to obtain required authorization.
