  • Technical leader with a strong engineering perspective: you've led Mobile strategy, shape technical direction, improve reliability and performance, and ensure solutions are scalable and maintainable with a focus on automation.
  • Hands-on when needed: while this is a management role, you're comfortable in technical discussions to guide your team and ensure sound decisions, and can partner across development teams to diagnose and resolve issues when needed.
  • Technical skills: the team will primarily code in Android, iOS or Kotlin. You have significant experience with one of these languages.

About this role

Adyen is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead either the Android or iOS team within its Payment Engineering organization, based in Amsterdam. The role centers on building and operating in-store payment integrations—work that touches payment kernels, PCI compliance, and the foundational infrastructure retailers depend on globally. You'll own team leadership across all levels, from hiring and planning to setting strategic goals, while working closely with product, design, data, and infrastructure teams to evolve the platform.

The ideal candidate brings 7+ years in mobile or IoT software development and at least 2 years managing people. You'll need deep technical grounding—significant experience with Android, iOS, or Kotlin—combined with the ability to guide architectural decisions, improve reliability, and drive technical excellence across your team. Experience with in-store payment protocols like PCI, P2PE, or payment kernels is valuable but not required if you have the technical foundation to learn quickly. This is a hands-on management role; you'll stay engaged in technical discussions and problem-solving alongside your team rather than stepping away from engineering entirely.

The position is full-time and office-based in Amsterdam, with no remote option. Adyen emphasizes collaborative culture and support for career ownership, and welcomes applications from people of all backgrounds.
