About this role

Waggoner Engineering is seeking a licensed civil engineer to lead its stormwater discipline in the Birmingham or Huntsville area. You would serve as the technical authority on projects spanning stormwater management, detention and retention pond design, bridge hydraulics, erosion control, watershed planning, and hydraulic modeling using industry-standard software like HEC-RAS and LA DOTD HydroWIN. The role combines hands-on engineering work with significant leadership responsibilities: you'll manage scope and budgets alongside project managers, hire and develop staff, conduct performance reviews, and mentor engineers in specialized skill sets across the discipline.

This position suits an experienced PE (4–10+ years) with a master's degree in civil or environmental engineering who is ready to grow beyond individual project work. Beyond technical execution, you'll identify new business opportunities, collaborate with business development on marketing strategy, and help shape how the discipline evolves within the firm. The company offers a $10,000 signing bonus, competitive salary, health benefits, flexible scheduling, and support for professional development and community involvement.
