About this role
Cainhoy Veterinary Hospital is looking for a veterinary receptionist to manage the front desk of their Charleston practice, serving as the main point of contact between clients, their pets, and the clinical team. The role demands someone who can handle high-volume administrative work with accuracy while maintaining composure in emotionally demanding situations—from routine appointment scheduling to sensitive conversations around euthanasia and end-of-life care. You'll check in patients, manage a multi-line phone system, process payments, maintain electronic medical records, and coordinate communication between staff to keep operations running smoothly.
The ideal candidate brings at least one year of veterinary reception experience and familiarity with practice management software such as Cornerstone, Avimark, or ImproMed. You'll need solid knowledge of veterinary terminology, vaccination protocols, and appointment scheduling, along with strong communication and conflict resolution skills. Comfort handling animals of different sizes and temperaments is essential, as is the ability to explain medical information and care instructions clearly to clients.
This is a part-time position with a set schedule: alternating Monday mornings and afternoons, full days Tuesday and Saturday (7:45 AM–5:30 PM). The salary ranges from $18.50 to $25.00 per hour based on experience and skills. While this is part-time, the hospital offers paid time off and professional development opportunities, with full-time employees eligible for a 401(k) plan.
