About this role
Ascension's cath lab nursing role in Austin demands expertise in managing critically ill cardiac patients through complex interventional procedures. You'll work in a high-acuity environment where your responsibilities span pre-procedure preparation, real-time monitoring of hemodynamics and cardiac rhythms during primary PCIs and structural heart interventions, conscious sedation management, and operation of advanced circulatory support equipment like Impella and IABP devices. This is direct-assist work alongside interventional cardiologists in time-sensitive, high-risk cases.
The post-procedure phase is equally demanding. You'll manage immediate recovery, perform specialized vascular access site care and sheath removals, and respond rapidly to bleeding or ischemic complications. Success in this role requires a Texas RN license (required before hire), BLS certification within 30 days of start, and preferably ALS certification. You'll need a nursing diploma or degree from an accredited program and the clinical judgment to work independently in emergent situations while maintaining sterile fields and managing vasoactive medications.
This full-time, in-office position suits experienced nurses who thrive in high-complexity perioperative settings and want to specialize in interventional cardiology. Ascension is a large nonprofit Catholic health system recognized as a top workplace and military-friendly employer, offering the resources and culture of a major health system.
