Description

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Supplier Compliance & Sustainability Lead to join our team. This is a varied, hands-on role working across our global supply chain to strengthen responsible sourcing, supplier compliance, environmental performance and packaging. You will turn changing requirements into practical action, build trusted relationships with suppliers and internal teams, and use robust data and governance to reduce risk and deliver measurable improvement.

You may bring deeper experience in supplier compliance or in environment and packaging; what matters most is your ability to apply strong compliance, programme management and stakeholder skills across a broad agenda. You will have ownership of defined workstreams while collaborating closely with colleagues across Buying, Technical, Freight, Customs, Finance, Technology, Operations and Marketing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leading assigned ethics, sustainability and compliance workstreams, translating legal requirements and business commitments into clear plans, controls and measurable outcomes.
  • Maintaining practical policies, standards and guidance for suppliers and internal teams, and supporting effective onboarding, training and adoption.
  • Managing risk-based due diligence, audit or assurance activity, assessing findings and ensuring corrective actions are proportionate, time-bound and verified through to closure.
  • Improving the completeness, accuracy and auditability of supplier, product, packaging and environmental data, including traceability records, certifications and supporting evidence.
  • Supporting compliance with relevant human rights, modern slavery, environmental, packaging, waste, labelling and product-claim requirements across our international markets.
  • Partnering with suppliers and colleagues to reduce packaging, improve material choices, strengthen responsible sourcing and identify practical carbon and resource-efficiency opportunities.
  • Monitoring performance, investigating exceptions and recurring issues, and coordinating timely resolution across internal teams and external partners.
  • Producing clear dashboards, reports and recommendations that highlight progress, emerging risks, priorities and opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Keeping up to date with relevant legislation, industry standards and best practice, assessing business impacts and supporting proportionate implementation.
  • Building effective relationships with auditors, assurance providers, compliance schemes, industry bodies and other specialist partners.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • Relevant experience in ethical sourcing, supplier compliance, sustainability, environment, packaging or a related field, ideally within retail, consumer goods or an international supply chain.
  • The ability to interpret regulations, standards and technical information and turn them into clear, workable processes.
  • Experience managing compliance, assurance, audit, reporting or improvement programmes with multiple stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and data-management skills, with excellent attention to detail and confidence working with complex datasets.
  • A practical, organised approach and the ability to balance planned priorities with queries, exceptions and emerging risks.
  • Clear communication and influencing skills, with confidence working across functions, seniority levels, cultures and external organisations.
  • A collaborative, curious and solutions-focused mindset, with the confidence to challenge constructively and take ownership.
  • Advanced Excel skills and confidence learning or improving systems and reporting tools.

It would be an advantage if you also have

  • Knowledge of responsible sourcing platforms, social audit standards or corrective action management.
  • Experience of packaging compliance, producer responsibility, waste reporting, carbon accounting or emissions-reduction programmes.
  • Familiarity with product traceability, sustainability certifications, responsible-claims controls or supply-chain mapping.
  • Experience working directly with international suppliers and third-party assurance providers.

About this role

Mountain Warehouse is looking for someone to lead compliance and sustainability across its global supply chain—a role that sits at the intersection of ethics, risk management, environmental responsibility and practical supplier partnership. You would own defined workstreams covering responsible sourcing, modern slavery and human rights due diligence, packaging and environmental performance, and data governance. The work involves translating legal requirements and business commitments into clear controls, managing audits and corrective actions, improving data quality and traceability, and building dashboards that track progress and flag emerging risks.

This is a varied, hands-on position that demands strong programme management and stakeholder skills across multiple functions: you'll partner regularly with Buying, Technical, Freight, Customs, Finance, Technology, Operations and Marketing teams, as well as external auditors and compliance schemes. You'll need the ability to interpret regulations and technical standards, manage complex datasets with confidence in Excel, and balance planned priorities against exceptions and emerging issues. The role suits someone with relevant experience in ethical sourcing, supplier compliance, sustainability or packaging—ideally in retail or consumer goods—who can work collaboratively across cultures and seniority levels while challenging constructively and taking ownership.

The position is full-time and hybrid, based in London with three days in the office and two working from home. You'll receive a competitive salary and benefits package including a 50% staff discount, pension scheme, and generous holiday allowance.
