About this role

Enva's Health and Safety Officer role is a field-focused position supporting the management and continuous improvement of health, safety and environmental systems across industrial, water and hazardous waste operations. Based in Portlaoise with nationwide travel required, you'll work directly with operational teams to ensure compliance with ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 standards, conduct site inspections and audits, and monitor high-risk activities including confined space entry, tank cleaning, hazardous waste handling and tanker operations. The role combines desk-based management system work—data analysis, audit preparation, compliance tracking—with regular time on site observing work, identifying hazards and supporting the implementation of controls.

The ideal candidate holds a third-level qualification in occupational health and safety or a related field, with at least two years' experience in a health, safety or environmental role. You'll need strong knowledge of Irish health and safety legislation, ISO management system experience, and a full manual driving licence for nationwide travel. The role calls for someone who is operationally minded, comfortable working independently and within teams, and able to communicate effectively across all levels from frontline staff to management. Experience in industrial services, waste management or similar sectors is valued, as is IOSH membership or training delivery experience.

Beyond the core safety responsibilities, you'll champion a positive safety culture through training delivery, toolbox talks and workforce engagement, investigate incidents and near-misses to identify learning opportunities, and explore how AI and technology can improve safety performance. Enva offers a competitive salary, pension scheme, enhanced family-friendly policies, employee assistance support and free on-site parking.
