About this role
ISG's Power Group is looking for a Senior Substation Relay and Controls Engineer to lead the design and delivery of protection systems for high-voltage substations serving FirstEnergy in the Columbus area. You would own the full technical scope—from one-line and three-line diagrams through AC/DC schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts—while ensuring all designs meet IEEE, NESC, and client standards. This is a hands-on role that requires both depth in substation engineering and the ability to troubleshoot complex technical challenges, coordinate across physical and civil teams, and serve as the primary technical contact for clients.
The position calls for eight or more years of consulting or substation design experience and a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, with an Ohio PE license preferred. Beyond design work, you'll mentor junior engineers, review their deliverables, conduct training, and drive process improvements. Travel for site visits and client meetings is expected, and you'll work in-office in Columbus.
ISG structures itself as an employee-owned firm with a one-profit-center model, meaning you'd have access to resources and opportunities across all offices. The compensation range is $80,000 to $120,000, supported by medical and dental coverage, paid time off, an ESOP, 401(k), profit sharing, and other standard benefits including parental leave and disability coverage.
