This is a hands-on, technical role that could be a great fit for AV technicians, audio enthusiasts, studio assistants, IT support professionals, or anyone who enjoys working with technology, troubleshooting problems, and figuring things out quickly.

What you’ll do

  • Set up and operate audio and video recording equipment according to established production playbooks and technical guidelines.
  • Work with equipment such as condenser and dynamic microphones, Sennheiser systems, Zoom F3 and H3-VR recorders, DJI Mic systems, and Insta360 cameras.
  • Perform pre-session technical checks to verify equipment connections, recording levels, microphone placement, camera framing, and overall recording readiness.
  • Monitor audio and video recordings throughout sessions, identifying potential issues before they affect recording quality.
  • Troubleshoot technical problems as they arise, working quickly and persistently through established troubleshooting steps to minimize downtime.
  • Follow standardized recording procedures, equipment configurations, and quality checks to maintain consistency across sessions.
  • Manage recording files, verify successful transfers and backups, and follow established data offload and equipment reset procedures.
  • Keep equipment organized, charged, maintained, and ready for upcoming sessions.
  • Work closely with the Director and Scene Assistant to support timely setup, scene transitions, and uninterrupted filming.
  • Document recurring technical issues, communicate challenges, and flag opportunities to improve existing playbooks and workflows.

Who you are

  • You're tech-savvy, hands-on, and comfortable learning and working with different types of recording equipment.
  • You're a quick, persistent problem-solver who enjoys troubleshooting and figuring out why something isn't working.
  • You can follow detailed technical instructions and established playbooks accurately and consistently.
  • You're detail-oriented and understand the importance of reliable equipment setup and recording quality.
  • You can stay calm under pressure, troubleshoot methodically, and know when to escalate issues.
  • You're dependable, organized, and comfortable working in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Experience with audio/video recording equipment, AV support, studio operations, or technical troubleshooting is a plus.
  • Familiarity with Zoom recorders, Insta360 cameras, DJI Mic systems, Sennheiser equipment, or multichannel audio recording is a plus.

About this role

HumanSignal, a data platform company supporting AI model development, is hiring a Tech Ops Specialist to manage the technical side of their audio and video recording operations in Hoboken. You'd be the person ensuring that scripted recording sessions capture clean, consistent footage by setting up and operating professional equipment—microphones, cameras, audio recorders, and related gear—while monitoring sessions and troubleshooting problems as they happen. The work is hands-on and production-focused, requiring you to follow established playbooks, perform pre-session technical checks, manage file transfers and backups, and keep equipment maintained and ready.

This role suits someone with technical aptitude and troubleshooting skills who enjoys working with hardware and solving problems under pressure. Prior experience as an AV technician, audio engineer, studio assistant, or IT support professional would be valuable, as would familiarity with specific equipment like Zoom recorders, Insta360 cameras, or Sennheiser systems. You'll need to be detail-oriented, reliable, and comfortable standing and carrying 20–30 pounds of equipment throughout the day in a fast-paced studio environment.

The position is full-time, in-office in Hoboken, with occasional evening and weekend availability required. Pay is $20–$30 per hour depending on experience, and contract duration will be confirmed during recruitment.
