About this role

Gates Hudson & Associates is looking for an Assistant Property Manager to join an affordable housing community in Arlington, Virginia on a contract basis. You'll work directly under the Property Manager to handle the day-to-day operational, financial, and resident-focused work that keeps a multifamily property running smoothly. This means supervising onsite staff, conducting inspections, processing invoices and expense tracking, coordinating with vendors, managing lease paperwork, and responding to resident concerns—essentially serving as a second set of hands across all aspects of property management.

The role requires at least two years of property management or leasing experience, with a strong emphasis on affordable housing background. You'll need solid knowledge of Fair Housing, ADA, FCRA, and multifamily regulations, along with genuine customer service skills and the ability to juggle multiple priorities independently. Experience with property management software like Yardi or Nexus is preferred, as is bilingual Spanish capability and any prior supervisory experience. The position is in-office in Arlington and includes weekend availability.

This contract role pays $35–$38 per hour and suits someone organized and detail-oriented who wants hands-on involvement across operations, finances, and resident relations in the affordable housing sector.
