Description
Company Overview
Amperesand is reinventing how the world powers its most critical systems.
We are facing a once-in-a-generation opportunity for infrastructure disruption. Electricity demand is skyrocketing, driven by AI factories, electric vehicles, and modern industrial growth. Energy supply is shifting to incorporate a more diverse mix of resources – including solar, gas, and batteries – at a massive scale.
And yet the power infrastructure behind our latest mega-projects hasn’t meaningfully changed in nearly 100 years. Supply chains for today’s infrastructure equipment can’t match the pace and sophistication of critical energy projects. Amperesand is building hardware and software that rewrites this broken power infrastructure playbook to support a new era of energy abundance.
We’ve built a new class of intelligent, software-defined power infrastructure products leveraging a decade of advanced medium voltage Solid State Transformer research that’s now ready for commercial deployment.
Our products and solutions go far beyond the capabilities of traditional electrical equipment. We make power systems that are faster to deploy, dramatically smaller and more efficient, and capable of supporting modern, dynamic energy needs for tomorrow’s most demanding energy consumers.
Scalable in-house advanced manufacturing capability is our foundation for meeting timeline and quality expectation to serve infrastructure customers around the world.
Amperesand is led by breakthrough energy hardware development veterans and funded by top tier investors who share our vision of building a category-defining energy technology company.
With hubs in San Francisco, Reno, and Singapore, our global team is laser focused on building foundational technology to solve the most pressing problems in power infrastructure at scale.
Join us in building the power foundation of the future!

-
Collaborate with hardware and firmware teams to optimize sensing, protection, and control-loop performance.
-
Support validation activities including loop stability measurement, transient response testing, and fault handling verification.
-
Own complex control subsystems and contribute to system-level design under technical leadership.
Qualifications:
-
Technical degree or equivalent industry experience in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field, with a strong focus on power electronics and control systems.
-
3+ years of experience designing and deploying digital control for power converters, with demonstrated ability to own and execute complex technical tasks.
-
Strong understanding of resonant power conversion principles and their control implications across isolated and non-isolated power converter architectures.
-
Solid foundation in control theory, including loop compensation, stability margins, frequency-domain and time-domain analysis, and nonlinear system behavior.
-
Proven experience implementing real-time control algorithms on embedded platforms.
-
Hands-on laboratory experience debugging power converters.
-
Ability to translate theoretical control concepts into practical, robust implementations.
-
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to work through technically ambiguous challenges.
-
Familiarity with modeling and simulation tools such as MATLAB/Simulink and PLECS.
-
Proficiency in embedded C for real-time control implementation and debugging.
Bonus Qualifications:
-
Exposure to medium-voltage power electronics systems.
-
Exposure to bidirectional power conversion and power flow control.
-
Experience supporting products from R&D through validation and deployment.
Please note: This role requires working on-site 5 days a week. We do not offer hybrid or remote options.
Onsite Collaboration Rationale:
Given the highly collaborative and cross-functional nature of hardware, embedded systems, and product development, in-person partnership across engineering and product teams is critical to enabling rapid execution, technical alignment, and successful development outcomes.

About this role
Amperesand is building software-defined power infrastructure for the next generation of energy systems, and this role puts you at the center of that effort. As Senior Power Electronics Control Engineer, you'll design and implement digital control algorithms for advanced AC-DC and DC-DC converters—particularly the multilevel and resonant topologies used in solid-state transformers. The work spans the full development cycle: from modeling and stability analysis through real-time algorithm implementation on embedded platforms, hands-on lab debugging, and validation testing. You'll own complex control subsystems while working closely with hardware, firmware, and systems teams to translate theoretical control concepts into robust, production-ready solutions.
This position demands deep expertise in power electronics and control theory. You'll need at least three years designing and deploying digital converter controls, a solid grasp of resonant power conversion principles, and proven ability to implement real-time algorithms in C on DSP/MCU/SoC platforms. Hands-on lab experience debugging converters is essential, as is fluency with MATLAB/Simulink and PLECS. The role is based in Reno and requires full-time, on-site presence—there is no remote or hybrid option. The salary range is $150,000–$180,000 for the Reno location.
This is a strong fit if you're looking for high technical ownership in a fast-moving startup environment where your control design directly shapes infrastructure products moving from R&D into the field. Experience with medium-voltage systems or bidirectional power conversion is a plus.
