About this role
Kairos Power is developing advanced nuclear reactor technology, and this role puts you at the center of designing the fuel handling and storage systems that will be critical to their deployment. You'll own the mechanical and electromechanical equipment design from concept through prototype testing, creating detailed 3D models, manufacturing drawings, and working hands-on to build and evaluate designs in real prototypic conditions. This is a position where you'll move fluidly between the CAD workstation and the lab or manufacturing floor, collaborating directly with engineers, technicians, and suppliers to solve novel engineering problems and mature equipment for actual operation.
The role demands solid fundamentals in mechanical design and SolidWorks proficiency, along with genuine comfort working hands-on with prototypes, test rigs, and manufacturing environments. You'll need to apply engineering analysis to support design decisions, interpret feedback from testing and assembly, and iterate designs based on real-world constraints. Experience with electromechanical systems, prototyping, and manufacturing processes is valuable; LabVIEW or PLC integration and machine motion experience would strengthen your candidacy. The work is based in Albuquerque and requires in-office presence, with occasional travel and time spent in noisy, industrial, and laboratory settings where you'll handle equipment and materials as part of the job.
This suits someone who thrives on designing custom equipment for specialized applications, enjoys the full lifecycle from concept to test, and prefers working in technical teams where hands-on problem-solving is expected and valued.
