You bring solid experience in implantable device electronics and enjoy working across the boundary between hardware, firmware, and software, from design and verification through regulatory support.

Primary Role and Responsibilities

  • Electrical & Circuit Design: Design and characterize analog/mixed-signal circuits for implantable device applications, including simulation, statistical validation, and manufacturing test development.
  • Systems Integration: Support electrical and systems architecture across implant and external hardware (e.g., wireless communication, charging, programming interfaces).
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Mechanical Engineering, Firmware/Software, Clinical, and Regulatory teams to deliver an integrated system.
  • V&V & Regulatory Support: Author subsystem-level requirements, execute verification and validation testing, and support FDA regulatory submissions in compliance with ISO 13485, ISO 14971, IEC 60601-1/-1-2, and IEC 62304.
  • Reliability & Manufacturing Readiness: Support DFM/DFA efforts and manufacturing test development.

 Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field (Master's a plus).
  • 7+ years of electrical engineering experience, with experience in Class III active implantable medical devices strongly preferred
  • Solid analog/mixed-signal circuit design experience (simulation, characterization, statistical validation)
  • Experience with the full product development lifecycle
  • Proficiency with tools such as LTspice, oscilloscope/multimeter/impedance analyzer, or relevant simulation/modeling software
  • Familiarity with FDA regulatory pathways and standards including ISO 13485, ISO 14971, IEC 60601, and IEC 62304 a plus
  • Comfortable working across hardware/software/systems boundaries and collaborating with cross-functional device teams

About this role

Echo Neurotechnologies is building brain-computer interface technology for implantable medical devices, and they're looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer to own the electrical architecture and circuit design for their active implant system. This role sits at the intersection of analog/mixed-signal design, systems integration, and regulatory compliance—you'll design and characterize circuits, support the full electrical and systems architecture across implant and external hardware, and partner with mechanical, firmware, software, clinical, and regulatory teams to bring an integrated device to market.

The position demands 7+ years of electrical engineering experience with a strong preference for Class III active implantable medical device background. You'll need solid hands-on skills in analog/mixed-signal circuit design, simulation tools like LTspice, and standard lab equipment, plus familiarity with FDA pathways and medical device standards (ISO 13485, ISO 14971, IEC 60601, IEC 62304). Beyond technical depth, you'll author subsystem requirements, execute verification and validation testing, support regulatory submissions, and contribute to design-for-manufacturing and manufacturing test development.

This is an in-office role in San Francisco with a salary range of $175,000–$230,000, stock options, comprehensive benefits, and 401(k) matching. It's a small, early-stage team where you'll have real ownership over broad decisions with lasting impact—suited for someone who thrives in cross-functional collaboration and wants to work on technology that directly improves patients' lives.
