About this role

The Jane Pauley Community Health Center serves a diverse patient population across Indiana, and this role exists to remove language barriers for Haitian Creole speakers accessing care. As a Medical Interpreter, you would work in-office facilitating real-time conversations between patients and clinical staff, ensuring accurate medical communication in both directions. Beyond interpreting appointments, you'd handle written translations of patient materials and forms, make appointment confirmation calls, and serve as a cultural resource to help providers understand health beliefs and practices relevant to your community. The work demands fluency in both Haitian Creole and English—tested during hiring—plus the ability to remain neutral and maintain strict confidentiality while navigating sensitive health information.

This position requires at least two years of prior healthcare experience and a high school diploma. Familiarity with medical terminology and completion of a medical interpreter training course (like Bridging the Gap) would strengthen your candidacy. You'll need solid computer skills for documentation, billing systems, and patient records. The role involves typical office demands: sitting at a desk, occasional standing and walking, and handling light materials.

If you're fluent in Haitian Creole and English, have healthcare background, and want work that directly connects language access to patient outcomes, this full-time position offers the stability of a federally qualified health center with benefits including medical and dental coverage, PTO, and a 401(k) match.
