- The overall objective is to minimize vehicle/suspension sensitivity to variation in forces induced by road surfaces, assembly build variation, vehicular architecture, and/or wear.
- Responsible for quality testing activities throughout all Program development phases; from up-front target setting and design definition, through in-vehicle testing on prototype properties, and then pre-production (pilot) properties.
- Ensure that critical components have appropriate targets/specifications to minimize sensitivity to brake rotor wear (judder), tire/wheel imbalance, vehicle lead/drift/pull, steering wander, torque steer, and vehicle shake (ride). This will be accomplished through a combination of simulation, objective testing, and subjective evaluation methods
- Responsible for in-vehicle development of the critical components to meet the vehicle’s overall ride, steering, handling, and tire performance objectives.
- Requires specialized driving skills for subjective ride, steering, routine handling and limit handling evaluations.
- Responsible for the leadership of all CAE/virtual analysis activity associated with steering/suspension hard-point development; steering/suspension component stiffness /damping specification; and ride/handling

About this role
ALTEN Technology USA is seeking an ADAS Performance Specialist to lead ride comfort development for autonomous and electric vehicles. In this role, you'll own quality testing and performance optimization across all program phases—from target setting and design definition through prototype and pre-production validation. Your work will span simulation, objective testing, and subjective evaluation to minimize vehicle sensitivity to road surface variation, assembly differences, and component wear, addressing issues like brake judder, tire imbalance, steering wander, and ride shake.
The position demands both engineering depth and hands-on expertise. You'll lead CAE and virtual analysis for suspension and steering systems, develop component specifications, and conduct specialized driving evaluations—which means a valid driver's license and clean driving record are essential. The role requires proficiency with industry-standard simulation tools (ADAMS/Car, Altair Motionview, NASTRAN, CARsim, and others), strong knowledge of vehicle dynamics theory, and experience with design processes like DFMEA and DVP&R. You'll coordinate across teams and communicate findings clearly to support critical automotive development decisions.
This is an in-office role in Chelsea, Michigan, best suited for someone with a mechanical or electrical engineering degree, prior chassis or vehicle dynamics experience, and demonstrated capability in suspension and steering system development. ALTEN Technology USA is a federal contractor, so all offers are contingent on drug screening and background clearance.
