Team description

SumUp's Executive Recruiting team finds the critical leaders who help build a global company that is trusted by more than 4 million businesses. Because the best senior talent rarely applies through a job board, every search depends on solid market research, curiosity, and a bit of detective work.

You'll learn this craft hands-on, working closely with our Executive Recruiter to track down candidates for some of SumUp's most important hires, often before they're even looking for a new role. It's a structured, supported way into Executive Recruiting and broader Talent Acquisition, built for someone who's curious about what makes a person the right fit for SumUp and a great leader.

What you'll do

  • Research and map candidates for senior and strategic leadership roles using LinkedIn, our internal database and other sources.
  • Shadow the Executive Recruiter on live searches to see firsthand what makes a strong leadership candidate.
  • Keep candidate records accurate and up to date.
  • Share clear, structured updates on search progress during weekly check-ins with hiring teams.
  • Help test new sourcing channels and ideas alongside the Executive Recruiting team.

You'll be great for this role if…

  • Genuine curiosity about people and what makes someone the right fit for a role, shown through previous jobs, research projects, coursework, volunteer work, or self-directed learning.
  • Persistence and attention to detail, with a track record of keeping structured, accurate records.
  • Ability to manage deadlines and multiple tasks in a professional or academic setting.
  • Openness to feedback and comfort picking up new tools and ways of working quickly.

Any prior exposure to sourcing or CRM tools is a bonus, not a requirement. Full training will be provided.

About this role

SumUp's Executive Recruiting team hunts for the senior leaders who shape a global fintech company trusted by millions of small businesses. As a working student on this team, you'd spend 20 hours weekly doing the detective work that precedes every executive search—researching and mapping candidates on LinkedIn and internal databases, shadowing live recruitment efforts, and maintaining accurate candidate records. You'd contribute directly to filling some of SumUp's most strategic roles, often identifying talent before they're actively job hunting.

This role suits someone genuinely curious about people and what makes a strong leader, with a demonstrated ability to stay organized, meet deadlines, and juggle multiple tasks. You'll need persistence and attention to detail, plus openness to learning new tools and processes quickly. Prior experience with sourcing or CRM platforms is helpful but not required; the team provides full training. The position offers a structured entry point into executive recruiting and broader talent acquisition, built around hands-on learning rather than routine admin work.

Based in SumUp's Berlin office, you'd work in-office as a volunteer alongside a professional recruiter. The company offers pro-rated benefits including 28 days of paid leave, subsidized transport via the Deutschlandticket, on-site gym and wellness access, and subsidized office meals—standard perks that reflect SumUp's commitment to supporting its team across 90+ nationalities.
