About this role
Ascension's Exercise Physiologist role in Indianapolis combines direct patient care with significant travel responsibility. You'll conduct pre- and post-rehabilitation assessments, design individualized exercise therapy programs based on test results and medical history, and monitor patients' progress while adjusting plans as needed. The position requires clinical judgment—recognizing when patients show contraindications or abnormal responses to exercise and knowing when to refer back to medical professionals or stop a session. Beyond one-on-one work, you'll maintain department equipment, manage patient records and scheduling, and contribute to community education through classes and public speaking.
The travel component is substantial: expect to be away from the Indianapolis office roughly 65% of the time, split between overnight trips (40%, with hotel and meal coverage plus a $125 nightly bonus) and local travel within an hour (25%). You'll need a bachelor's degree and BLS certification within your first month. The role favors candidates with an Exercise Science background, ACSM Exercise Physiologist certification, EKG training, and ideally an Athletic Trainer credential or Sports Medicine specialization. A master's degree is preferred but not required.
This is a full-time, in-office-based position at a large nonprofit Catholic health system known for supporting its workforce. The travel expectations and clinical responsibilities make it well-suited to someone comfortable with mobility and ready to work independently in patient assessment and program design.
