Description
Software Architect
We are seeking a talented and client-focused Software Architect to join BearingPoint's Software Development practice. In this Manager-level role, you will be responsible for designing scalable, resilient, and commercially viable software solutions for our clients across a range of industries. You will work hand-in-hand with delivery managers, engineering teams, and client stakeholders to translate business requirements into robust technical architectures.
This role is responsible for ensuring the technical quality, architecture, and non-functional delivery of solutions, while contributing hands-on where appropriate. The Software Architect works closely with the Product Team (Business Architect, Product Owners), Solution Architect, and Delivery Team to ensure that solutions are technically sound, maintainable, and aligned with delivery objectives.
This role provides technical leadership across the delivery lifecycle, including software architecture, implementation guidance, non-functional requirements, production support, and technical mentoring.
The Software Architect remains embedded within the delivery team and contributes to implementation where appropriate to maintain strong understanding of the codebase and technical challenges.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- The Software Architect is accountable for the overall technical quality of the delivery. This includes solution architecture, non‑functional requirements, engineering standards, and production readiness.
- This accountability is exercised through defining and evolving architecture, establishing and enforcing engineering standards, ensuring non‑functional quality goals are met, and providing hands‑on technical leadership throughout implementation and production support. The role ensures that technical decisions are applied consistently across the delivery and that technical risk is actively identified, managed, and communicated.
- Evaluate and recommend appropriate technology stacks, frameworks, and cloud services aligned to client needs and BearingPoint standards.
- Act as a trusted technical advisor to client stakeholders, clearly communicating architectural decisions and trade-offs to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Support pre-sales and bid activities by contributing to solution design, technical proposals, and client workshops.
- Stay abreast of emerging technologies, architectural patterns (microservices, event-driven, serverless), and industry trends.
- Contribute to BearingPoint's internal community of practice, knowledge-sharing forums, and capability development.
- Mentor and coach senior developers, helping them transition into architectural thinking and supporting their career growth within the practice.
- Identify opportunities for technical value-add during client engagements, effectively 'selling' modern architectural approaches that solve business problems.
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
Essential:
- 12+ years of hands-on software engineering experience, with at least 5 years in an architecture or technical lead capacity
- Deep technical expertise in modern .NET (Core/6+) or Java (Spring Boot/Quarkus) ecosystems.
- Strong proficiency in designing and implementing software solutions on one or more major cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
- Deep expertise in modern software architecture patterns including microservices, event-driven architecture, API-first design, and domain-driven design (DDD).
- Proven experience with enterprise integration patterns, messaging systems (e.g., Kafka, RabbitMQ), and API gateway technologies.
- Solid understanding of software security architecture principles
- Experience producing architecture artefacts such as C4 models, sequence diagrams, data flow diagrams, and ADRs.
- Strong communication skills; ability to present complex technical concepts clearly to non-technical client stakeholders.
- Familiarity with container orchestration (Kubernetes/AKS/EKS) and modern observability stacks (ELK, Prometheus, AppInsights).
- Experience managing or mentoring other architects or technical leads
Desirable:
- Experience in a consulting or professional services environment delivering architecture solutions to enterprise clients.
- Proven experience in legacy modernization, specifically transitioning monolithic .NET Framework or JEE applications to modern, cloud-native architectures.
- Relevant software architecture certifications
- Familiarity with data architecture, or AI/ML integration patterns.
- Experience with regulated industries such as financial services, healthcare, or public sector.
- Familiarity with data architecture, AI/ML integration patterns, or Agentic AI frameworks (Semantic Kernel, LangChain)

About this role
BearingPoint's Software Development practice is looking for an experienced architect to lead technical strategy on client engagements across multiple industries. You'll operate at a manager level, owning the overall technical quality and architecture of solutions while staying hands-on with implementation where it matters. The role sits at the intersection of client needs, delivery teams, and product strategy—you'll translate business requirements into scalable architectures, mentor senior engineers toward architectural thinking, and act as a trusted advisor to stakeholders on complex technical trade-offs.
The position demands deep expertise in modern cloud-native development: at least 12 years of hands-on software engineering with 5+ years in architecture or technical leadership, strong proficiency in .NET Core or Java ecosystems, and proven experience designing and deploying on AWS, Azure, or GCP. You'll need to be fluent in contemporary patterns like microservices, event-driven architecture, and domain-driven design, with solid grounding in enterprise integration, messaging systems, security architecture, and container orchestration. The ability to produce clear architecture artifacts and communicate technical concepts to non-technical audiences is essential.
This role would suit someone with consulting or professional services background who has tackled legacy modernization challenges and wants to combine hands-on technical depth with leadership and mentoring. The in-office position in Dublin comes with competitive salary, comprehensive benefits including private health insurance and pension, and a commitment to continuous learning through partnerships with universities like Oxford.
