About this role
Accenture Federal Services is seeking a senior technical leader to build and scale large language model applications for federal government clients across defense, national security, and civilian agencies. You would lead a team of ML engineers and full-stack developers while personally architecting end-to-end AI solutions—from model fine-tuning and RAG implementations through production deployment. The role demands hands-on technical depth across the full stack: Python and TypeScript development, vector databases, cloud platforms, MLOps infrastructure, and emerging LLM capabilities like agents and multimodal applications.
This position requires eight years of software engineering or data science experience with at least three years in a leadership capacity, plus three years working directly with generative AI systems in production environments. You'll need deep expertise in ML frameworks, cloud infrastructure, and the ability to translate federal government mission requirements into scalable technical strategies. A bachelor's degree in computer science or related field is required; a master's or PhD is strongly preferred. Critically, you must hold an active TS/SCI security clearance with polygraph.
The role suits someone who thrives balancing strategic leadership with hands-on engineering work, who can mentor teams while staying current with rapidly evolving AI technology, and who is motivated by building solutions for federal missions. You'll work in-office in Columbia, Maryland, with a salary range of $139,300 to $269,000 depending on experience and qualifications.
