About this role
Atwell is seeking an Electrical and Instrumentation Engineer to join its oil and gas practice, supporting the design and delivery of pipeline and midstream facility projects across natural gas, hydrogen, CO₂, and renewable natural gas sectors. Based in Georgia and working in-office, you'll own E&I engineering responsibilities from concept through commissioning, developing electrical designs, instrumentation specifications, and control system coordination for compressor stations, meter facilities, terminals, and related infrastructure. The role demands technical depth in electrical power distribution, protective device coordination, equipment specification, and construction support, paired with the ability to mentor junior staff and translate between clients, vendors, and multi-disciplinary project teams.
Your day-to-day work centers on producing and reviewing design deliverables—one-lines, load calculations, cable schedules, grounding plans, area classifications, and loop drawings—while performing electrical studies using tools like SKM or ETAP. You'll coordinate closely with process and mechanical engineers on equipment layouts and control narratives, manage procurement activities including RFP development and vendor evaluation, and provide field support during construction, testing, and startup. This is hands-on technical work that requires both desk-based engineering rigor and site presence to resolve real-world issues.
The ideal candidate holds a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering and brings substantive experience in oil and gas, midstream, or industrial facility design. A PE license is preferred but not required. Familiarity with AutoCAD, PLC/SCADA systems, and field commissioning experience strengthen your candidacy. Atwell offers a competitive salary range of $115,000–$165,000 plus bonus and benefits, including generous PTO and flexible scheduling, within a 2,000-person firm recognized as a top workplace and fast-growing design leader.
