• Coordinate closely with engineers, project managers, and other design staff to ensure deliverables are accurate, complete, and aligned with project scope and client standards
• Support project execution from conceptual design through detailed design and construction issue packages
• Review markups and incorporate design changes based on internal review, client comments, and field conditions
• Assist in maintaining drawing quality, design consistency, and adherence to applicable codes, standards, and utility requirements
• Work with multidisciplinary teams across substation, transmission, renewables, and interconnection-related projects
• Support construction and field activities as needed, including drawing updates, as-builts, and response to design questions
Qualifications:

• Familiarity with utility, renewable interconnection, and/or high-voltage substation projects is preferred
Preferred Experience:
• Experience supporting greenfield and brownfield substation projects
• Familiarity with client-specific utility standards and drafting requirements
• Experience supporting projects related to renewable energy interconnections, transmission, or power delivery infrastructure

About this role
Atwell's Power & Energy team is looking for an Electrical Designer focused on substations to develop drawing packages and design deliverables for utility, renewable interconnection, and power delivery projects. You'd support both the physical layout side—general arrangements, equipment layouts, grounding and cable plans—and the Protection & Controls side, including schematics, wiring diagrams, and relay details. The work spans from conceptual design through construction, with close coordination across engineering, project management, and multidisciplinary teams.
This role suits someone with at least three years of substation design experience and solid AutoCAD skills who understands high-voltage equipment like transformers, breakers, and control systems. You'll need hands-on familiarity with preparing complete substation packages; experience with both greenfield and brownfield projects and renewable interconnections is valued. An Associate's degree or technical certification in electrical drafting is the baseline, though equivalent hands-on experience counts.
Atwell is a 2,000-person firm with a strong national footprint, recently recognized as ENR Design Firm of the Year for the Southeast and a ten-time "Best Place to Work." The position is full-time and in-office in Georgia, with a salary range of $30–$50 per hour plus benefits including 401(k) matching, tuition assistance, paid licensing fees, and flexible scheduling options for some roles.
