About this role
SMX's Cloud Business Unit is looking for a Microsoft Administrator to manage infrastructure supporting federal government missions from their Washington, DC office. You'd spend your time on core Windows Server administration—installation, patching, and hardening across 2016, 2019, and 2022 environments—while ensuring compliance with DISA STIGs, NIST standards, and FISMA requirements. The role centers heavily on Hyper-V cluster design and management, including failover clustering, live migration, and disaster recovery strategies, alongside Active Directory, DNS/DHCP, and storage architecture work.
This is a hands-on technical position that demands both depth and breadth. You'll need solid experience with PowerShell automation, SAN/NAS integration, and monitoring tools like System Center Virtual Machine Manager, plus the ability to troubleshoot hardware and software issues under SLA constraints. Government or DoD background is preferred, and you must be able to obtain a federal clearance. The role suits someone with 3 to 5+ years of system administration experience who's comfortable working in regulated environments and can balance technical problem-solving with documentation and compliance requirements.
The position is contract-based, full-time onsite, with a salary range of $105,100 to $140,000 depending on experience and qualifications. SMX offers health insurance, paid leave, and retirement benefits as part of their compensation package.
