Job Description:
We are seeking a Principal Java Software Engineer to design, develop, and enhance complex software applications supporting data-intensive and mission-critical environments. In this role, you will build scalable Java-based applications and services, integrate distributed technologies, and contribute throughout the software development lifecycle. The ideal candidate for this position will have strong Java and Spring Boot development experience with hands-on knowledge of distributed data systems, containerization, and modern CI/CD practices. Required Qualifications:
- TS/SCI with polygraph security clearance.
- A Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Computer Science or a related field and twelve (12) years of relevant experience. Also acceptable is no degree and sixteen (16) years of relevant experience.
- Strong software development experience using Java.
- Hands-on experience developing applications and microservices using Spring Boot.
- Experience working with MongoDB or comparable database technologies.
- Experience developing and deploying containerized applications using Docker.
- Experience with message-driven/distributed applications like Apache Kafka and Java Message Service (JMS).
- Experience deploying or supporting applications within Kubernetes environments.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated software delivery.

NetSage is looking for a Principal Java Software Engineer to architect and build sophisticated software systems for data-intensive, mission-critical environments. You'll design scalable Java applications and microservices, work with distributed technologies like Kafka and MongoDB, and shepherd code through the full development lifecycle—from containerization and CI/CD automation to Kubernetes deployment. This is a hands-on technical role where you'll need deep expertise in Spring Boot, Docker, and modern DevOps practices.
The position requires either a Computer Science degree plus twelve years of relevant software engineering experience, or sixteen years without the degree. You must hold a TS/SCI clearance with polygraph capability. Given the sensitive nature of the work, the job description is intentionally high-level, but NetSage frames this as a mission-focused role in national security where long-term career growth and skill development across multiple mission areas are priorities. This is an in-office contract role based in Annapolis Junction, Maryland.
