About this role

JRC is seeking a Systems Safety Engineer to lead conventional safety and certification efforts for a Department of Defense missile program. You would serve as the principal safety authority, responsible for translating DoD safety policies—particularly DoDI 5000.69 and MIL-STD-882E—into implementable requirements across the missile system lifecycle. This involves overseeing contractor compliance with safety designs, representing program interests at command-level safety forums, and guiding the system through formal safety certification processes with Navy and other joint service stakeholders.

The role demands deep expertise in defense acquisition and missile systems. You'll need at least five years of MDAP experience, strong grounding in DoD safety standards and software system safety practices, and demonstrated success managing safety on complex weapon programs. The position requires frequent travel (around 50%) to test ranges, contractor facilities, and government labs to support technical reviews and certification milestones. You'll work across multiple organizations—OSD, Service PEOs, FFRDCs, and industry partners—requiring both technical credibility and strong communication skills. An active Top Secret clearance is required; advanced certifications in systems engineering or program management, or experience with nuclear-capable or strategic programs, would strengthen your candidacy.

This is a contract position based in Washington, DC, working in-office. It offers competitive compensation and benefits alongside the opportunity to directly influence mission-critical defense systems.
