About this role

Toast is hiring a Software Engineer II to help expand its restaurant management platform across international markets, with a specific focus on serving mid-market operators in regions like Ireland, UK, Canada, and Australia. You'd be building backend and full-stack solutions that directly impact how restaurants run their operations—designing systems end-to-end from conception through monitoring and iteration based on real customer feedback. The role emphasizes shipping features incrementally in an agile environment while staying close to customer needs to understand what actually matters to complex hospitality operators.

The position requires at least three years of backend or full-stack experience with a track record of shipping products that drive real impact. You should be comfortable reading frontend code and working across the stack when needed, and importantly, you're expected to be genuinely excited about AI-assisted development tools like Claude Code—this team is actively pioneering new workflows with AI agents rather than just using them passively. The tech stack centers on Java and Kotlin services, React frontends with GraphQL, PostgreSQL and DynamoDB, and Android apps, so familiarity with these or similar technologies helps. Strong fundamentals in code quality, testing, and clean code practices matter, as does the ability to communicate clearly with engineers, product managers, and business stakeholders while adapting your technical depth to your audience.

This is a hybrid role based in Dublin. Toast values collaboration and collective success, and you'd be working alongside product, design, and engineering teams who are genuinely invested in making hospitality operators' lives easier. If you're energized by working with some ambiguity, shipping usable software quickly, and having your work used by real businesses, this could be a strong fit.
