Rocksteady Music School is the UK’s biggest employer of full-time, permanent musicians. We teach in-school rock and pop band lessons to primary age children. We’re a community of musicians and music-lovers, on a mission to remove barriers to music education so that no child gets left behind. We’re currently in thousands of schools in the UK, teaching over 100,000 children every week – and we’re growing fast. Join us as a band leader and your passion will inspire the next generation.
- Teach groups of primary-age children in a fun, inspiring rock and pop band format in up to 10 schools per week.
- Give children their first opportunity to learn an instrument – you’ll be teaching drums, guitar, bass, keyboard and vocals.
- Work independently as part of a remote team of band leaders, the biggest team of like-minded musicians in the UK, with the support of our central teams too.
- Be a rock and pop star role-model, empowering and supporting children in primary schools to deliver live performances at their end-of-term concerts.
- Help children develop their self-belief, resilience and wellbeing through performing in a band.
- Represent Rocksteady, building strong relationships with schools, teachers and parents.
- Be prepared for highly active days and to spend time on the road driving between schools. You’ll need to load and unload your band equipment, set-up and pack away in each location.
- To be competent on at least two of the following instruments: drums, guitar, bass, keyboard and vocals.
- The enthusiasm to learn how to teach band lessons and complete our extensive training programme before you start your timetable.
- The resilience to work in a role that provides some of your greatest moments and biggest challenges – often all in the same day!
- The confidence to be yourself at work, be proud of your uniqueness and communicate equally well with children, teachers and parents.
- The integrity to always promote the safety and well-being of children and young people.
- To be an organised, independent worker, with good time management and administration skills.
- A UK/EU driving licence and your own transport. This role requires you to use your own car to transport equipment and drive between schools.
- Full-time, salaried position.
- Work Monday – Friday, daytimes only.
- 11+ weeks paid holiday per year.
- Fuel contribution – 50p per business mile.

- Full training in our progressive teaching methodologies.
- Comprehensive benefits package, including discounts on everyday purchases and free 24/7 GP service.
- Enhanced maternity and paternity pay.
- Celebratory staff away-days, Christmas parties and social events.

About this role
Rocksteady Music School teaches rock and pop band lessons to primary-age children across UK schools, and they're looking for band leaders to deliver these sessions across multiple locations in the Wiltshire area. You'd work full-time, Monday to Friday, teaching groups of children drums, guitar, bass, keyboard and vocals—often giving them their first experience learning an instrument. No teaching background is required; Rocksteady provides full training in their methods before you start. What matters is that you're competent on at least two instruments, genuinely enthusiastic about inspiring young musicians, and able to work independently while staying organised.
The practical side involves significant time on the road: you'll visit up to ten schools per week, so you'll need your own transport and a UK/EU driving licence. You'll be loading and unloading equipment, setting up and packing away at each location, making for active days. The company supports this with fuel contributions (50p per mile) and an annual vehicle maintenance allowance. The salary runs from £28,000 to £33,000 depending on performance, plus a £1,500 annual bonus, with over eleven weeks of paid holiday and a range of other benefits including enhanced parental pay and long service awards.
This role suits someone who's musically skilled and genuinely motivated by the mission of removing barriers to music education, rather than someone seeking a traditional classroom teaching post. You'll need resilience—the job description itself notes you'll experience "greatest moments and biggest challenges often all in the same day"—but you'll be part of a large, supportive community of musicians working toward the same goal.
