About this role
Walker Surgical Center is seeking a PRN registered nurse for its pre-operative and post-anesthesia care unit. This is a part-time role averaging one to two days per week, with shifts scheduled during the center's Monday-Thursday operating hours (6:30am–5:00pm) and no on-call, weekend, or holiday obligations. The position offers the schedule flexibility of PRN work while maintaining consistent daytime hours in a surgical setting.
You'll assess and manage patient care across the pre-op and PACU phases, supervising the operating room environment, coordinating with physicians and surgical teams, and ensuring compliance with federal and state standards. The role demands strong clinical judgment—prioritizing patient needs, responding to emergencies, and maintaining detailed documentation—alongside effective communication with patients, families, and staff. You'll work independently and collaboratively, occasionally assisting with staff training and quality improvement initiatives.
This role is best suited for an RN with prior experience in surgical, ambulatory surgical center, ICU, or acute care settings. A bachelor's degree in nursing and certifications in BCLS and ACLS are preferred. You'll need proficiency with the center's electronic health record and office software systems, comfort with patient monitoring equipment, and the physical capability to stand for extended periods and occasionally lift up to 25 pounds. The position requires a current Michigan RN license and proof of work authorization.
