About this role
Working as an Employment Specialist at AbilityPath means providing direct, individualized support to adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities as they navigate employment. You'll deliver one-on-one coaching at job sites across San Mateo County, helping people explore career interests, develop work readiness skills, and build independence on the job. This involves tailoring instruction to each person's learning style, collaborating with families and interdisciplinary teams to set vocational goals, and documenting progress in the case management system. You'll also advocate for inclusive work opportunities and celebrate milestones with the people you serve.
The role requires at least one year of experience supporting adults with disabilities, either through work or volunteering, plus some exposure to professional work environments. An associate degree or progress toward one is preferred. You'll need a valid California driver's license and your own vehicle for site visits (mileage is reimbursed), along with standard clearances including a negative TB test and criminal background check. The position involves physical activity—lifting up to 25 pounds and moving between different work environments.
AbilityPath offers part-time and full-time schedules Monday through Friday, with compensation of $25–$26 per hour based on education and experience. Benefits include four weeks of PTO, ten paid holidays, medical/dental/vision coverage, a 401(k) with employer match, performance bonuses, educational reimbursement, and mileage reimbursement.
