About this role

UrgentVet operates after-hours clinics across the Birmingham area, filling the gap between daytime general practice and full emergency care. As a part-time urgent care veterinarian in Hoover, you'd work swing or second shifts handling common urgent cases—wound management, ear infections, vomiting and diarrhea, and euthanasia—typically as a solo clinician per shift. The role excludes wellness visits and abdominal surgeries, keeping the scope focused and manageable. You'll work in a paperless, modern facility equipped with cloud-based records, digital radiography, and full IDEXX lab capabilities designed for efficient care delivery.

The position calls for a DVM or VMD from an AVMA-accredited program and an active state license (or the ability to obtain one). Beyond clinical skills, the role emphasizes relationship-building with clients, collaboration with your clinical team and leadership, and mentoring support staff through the practice's internal training program. You'd manage a varying caseload within defined hours in a Fear Free, feline-friendly environment.

The compensation ranges from $70,000 to $100,000 annually, with notable benefits including paid CE days and allowance, covered licensing and professional dues, malpractice insurance, discounted personal veterinary care, one-on-one mentorship, and a flexible compensation package with retirement matching. The practice emphasizes schedule flexibility and a supportive clinical culture.
