About the Role
The core of Mixpanel’s value to customers has always been great data. We’re in an exciting moment for the way our users are thinking about and working with product data, and we need help figuring out how our position in the data infrastructure stack evolves. That’s why we’re hiring a fantastic Product Manager for Mixpanel Data.
In this role, you'll own Mixpanel's strategy and roadmap for where we sit in the data landscape - how our data architecture evolves, where we build versus integrate versus get out of the way, and what it means for Mixpanel to work with data that increasingly lives outside our walls as well as inside them. This is a pathfinding role: a large part of the job is turning ambiguous technical and business tradeoffs into a clear point of view, a roadmap, and decisions the engineering and leadership team can act on.
What You'll Do
- Define and drive Mixpanel's strategy and roadmap for how the product evolves alongside customers' data warehouses, lakes, and the broader modern data stack
- Turn complex, ambiguous architecture and business tradeoffs into a clear recommendation, grounded in customer evidence, competitive context, and business impact
- Partner closely with engineering leadership on build-vs-integrate-vs-partner decisions that shape Mixpanel's data architecture for years to come
- Talk directly to customers and prospects to understand how their data infrastructure and workflows are changing, and translate that into product bets
- Build the business case for infrastructure-level investments, making the ROI of foundational, long-horizon work legible to leadership
- Define how Mixpanel's data model, governance, and metadata need to evolve to support deeper analysis and a growing product portfolio
- Align engineering, design, and go-to-market teams around a shared strategic point of view, with clear, written communication
- Define and track the metrics that tell you whether the strategy is working, and course-correct as new evidence comes in
What We're Looking For
- 5+ years of hands-on product management experience, including ownership of technically complex, infrastructure- or platform-level problems
- Direct experience with the modern data stack — data warehouses, data lakes, ETL/ELT, or data platform tooling — as a builder, user, or product owner
- Comfort operating in ambiguity, with a track record of synthesizing competing technical and business inputs into a clear strategic point of view
- Experience partnering closely with engineering on architecture-level tradeoffs, not just feature scoping
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to bring technical and non-technical audiences along on a strategic narrative
- Experience using AI tools in product management workflows (e.g., competitive research, prototyping)
Nice to Have
- Experience at a data infrastructure, data platform, or analytics company
- Hands-on experience with data warehouses/lakehouses (e.g., Snowflake, BigQuery, Databricks) or open data formats
- Experience writing production-grade software
- Experience designing products using tools like Figma, Sketch, or Abstract

About this role
Mixpanel is looking for a Product Manager to shape how the company evolves its position in the modern data stack. You'd own the strategy and roadmap for Mixpanel's data architecture—deciding what to build, integrate, or partner on as customers increasingly work with data across warehouses, lakes, and external systems. This is fundamentally a strategy role: much of the work involves taking ambiguous technical and business tradeoffs, grounding them in customer evidence and competitive context, and turning them into a clear point of view that engineering and leadership can execute against.
The day-to-day spans customer conversations to understand how data infrastructure is changing, close partnership with engineering on architecture-level decisions, building business cases for foundational infrastructure work, and defining how Mixpanel's data model and governance need to evolve. You'll also be responsible for aligning engineering, design, and go-to-market teams around a shared strategic narrative, and for defining and tracking the metrics that tell you whether the strategy is working.
You'll need at least five years of hands-on product management experience with technically complex, infrastructure-level problems, plus direct experience with the modern data stack—whether as a builder, user, or product owner. The role demands comfort operating in ambiguity, strong written and verbal communication, and a track record of synthesizing competing inputs into clear strategy. Experience at a data infrastructure or analytics company, hands-on work with tools like Snowflake or Databricks, and familiarity with AI tools in product workflows are valued. The position is hybrid in San Francisco, with compensation of $175,000–$210,000 plus equity and standard benefits.
