Senior Backend Engineer

Pivotal Solutions is looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to lead the design and development of scalable, high-performance systems in Java. You'd own the full lifecycle of backend architecture—from initial design through performance optimization—while working with microservices, relational databases, and modern CI/CD practices. The role demands someone with at least five years of professional backend experience who can identify and resolve system bottlenecks and ensure code quality through reviews and automated testing.

Beyond individual contribution, this position carries real technical leadership responsibility. You'll mentor junior engineers, participate in knowledge-sharing, and help shape the company's technical direction by researching and recommending new technologies. Collaboration is central: you'll work closely with frontend developers, product managers, and other teams to translate product needs into robust implementations. The position is based in Philadelphia and requires in-office work.

The ideal candidate holds a degree in Computer Science or a related field, has solid expertise in Java frameworks like Spring Boot and Hibernate, and understands distributed systems and scalability challenges. A master's degree is preferred but not required. This is a full-time role suited to someone ready to balance hands-on engineering with mentorship and strategic technical input.
