About this role
Unit21 is building AI-powered fraud detection systems, and this full stack role sits at the intersection of that mission. You'd own projects end-to-end—designing and building high-performance automation systems with intuitive interfaces, collaborating with product and design, and shipping code that helps customers stay ahead of evolving fraud schemes. The work spans backend infrastructure (distributed systems, APIs, data pipelines, SQL optimization) and frontend (React, Material UI), with a focus on scalability, reliability, and elegant solutions to genuinely hard problems.
The role expects strong fundamentals: a degree in a technical field, three-plus years with Python, Go, or Rust, three-plus years with React and Material UI, and proven experience building and managing distributed systems on AWS with infrastructure-as-code (Terraform). You'll also need to demonstrate depth in software engineering practices—design patterns, source control, testing, deployments, code review—and the ability to optimize end-to-end data flows for production systems. Experience with Databricks, Spark, RAG pipelines, or large-scale critical systems is a bonus.
This is an in-office role in San Francisco with a base salary of $160,000–$200,000, plus equity, full benefits (medical, dental, vision covered), unlimited PTO, and learning stipends. Unit21 explicitly welcomes applications from candidates who don't check every box, and emphasizes a high-ownership culture focused on impact and growth.
