About this role

Ascension's Pharmacy Technician Advocate role in Austin combines clinical pharmacy work with a strong focus on patient access and financial assistance. You'll handle specialized compounding tasks, manage automated dispensing systems, and maintain medication inventory, but a significant portion of your day involves helping patients navigate insurance coverage, prior authorizations, and assistance programs. This means working across multiple channels—communicating with retail pharmacies, insurance companies, and provider offices to identify and resolve barriers to medication access.

The position requires current pharmacy technician certification (NHA or PTCB) and ideally one or more years of hands-on experience with Patient Assistance Programs, prior authorization processes, and financial assistance navigation. You may also give immunizations depending on state regulations and could support the pharmacist in patient education or extended clinical duties. This role suits someone who is detail-oriented with dispensing and inventory work but also enjoys problem-solving on behalf of patients and has developed expertise in the administrative side of pharmacy—insurance, benefits, and access programs.
