Description
About the Role
In high-stakes environments, safety and reliability are absolute. As our Senior Safety Engineer, you will embed these principles into the core of our autonomous ground systems. You will pioneer the engineering practices that ensure our products are safe, dependable, and maintainable from the first design sketch to final deployment in the field.
Working across systems, hardware, and software teams, you’ll be the central node for identifying risks and building resilience into every layer of our technology. Your expertise will directly shape the trustworthiness of our systems, ensuring that security and military forces can depend on them when it matters most.
What You’ll Build
- Establish and lead the safety function across our system development programs, setting the standard for how we embed resilience into our products
- Define and maintain traceable safety reuirements that guide our systems from concept through to delivery
- Identify, assess, and mitigate risks through structured risk assessments and targeted risk-reduction activities
- Conduct rigorous safety analyses (like FMEA or FTA) that directly inform and improve system architecture and design
- Lead structured safety reviews that actively shape technical decisions and contribute to a culture of safety-by-design
- Identify potential failure modes and develop robust mitigation strategies to reduce operational risk in complex, safety-critical systems
- Use operational data and performance trends to conduct data-driven analyses, continuously improving system behavior and reliability
- Lead root cause investigations and implement corrective action frameworks that strengthen system integrity over time
What You Bring
- A Master's degree in Safety Engineering, Systems, Electrical, Mechanical, or Aerospace Engineering, or a closely related field
- Minimum 4 to 5+ years of hands-on experience in Safety Engineering
- Solid experience in FMEA or FTA, and risk analysis — applied to real, complex systems
- Proven experience working with safety-critical or mission-critical systems where failure is not an option
- Solid knowledge of some of the relevant Safety standards and how to apply them in practice (e.g.: ISO 12100, ISO 13849, MIL-STD-882E, NATO AEP-4754, IEC 61508, ISO 3691)
- Strong analytical thinking paired with practical problem-solving — you identify the risk and then drive the fix
- A collaborative approach that allows you to work effectively across engineering disciplines and bring alignment to complex technical programs
- The ability to document Safety concepts
- Excellent communication skills, making complex safety concepts clear to technical and non-technical colleagues alike.
Please note: You do not need to meet every single requirement to apply. We welcome motivated candidates who are eager to grow into the role and develop their expertise further.

About this role
ARX Robotics is building autonomous ground systems for defense and first responder operations, and they need a Senior Safety Engineer to embed safety and reliability into every stage of development—from initial design through field deployment. You'll work across systems, hardware, and software teams to conduct rigorous safety analyses (FMEA, FTA), define critical safety requirements, drive design reviews, and investigate failures. Your work directly determines whether military and security forces can trust these systems in high-stakes situations.
This role suits someone with several years of hands-on safety or reliability engineering experience on complex, mission-critical products. You'll need solid grounding in safety standards like ISO 12100, MIL-STD-882E, or IEC 61508, and the ability to apply analytical rigor alongside practical problem-solving. Strong collaboration skills matter—you'll need to align technical teams and communicate complex safety concepts clearly across the organization.
ARX offers competitive compensation with performance bonuses, 27 days vacation (rising to 30), employer pension contributions, and learning support. The role is hybrid based in Munich, and the company is actively growing within the European defense sector. They explicitly welcome candidates willing to develop into the role, so relevant experience and demonstrated capability matter more than checking every box.
