About this role
Supporting a federal agency's security monitoring infrastructure, this senior-level role centers on the design, deployment, and maintenance of an enterprise logging and SIEM environment serving defense and national security missions. You'll work across on-premise and cloud systems, managing everything from architecture decisions and system onboarding to the day-to-day operations that keep centralized security monitoring running. The position requires hands-on technical depth: developing correlation rules, building dashboards for different stakeholder groups, managing data ingestion from security tools like firewalls and vulnerability scanners, and troubleshooting outages and data-feed issues.
The work balances strategic and operational demands. You'll lead architecture migrations, present change requests to governance boards, and coordinate with system owners and government teams on new integrations. There's also a forward-looking component—integrating machine learning and AI capabilities into the agency's logging solution. The role expects you to synthesize complex security data into actionable intelligence for executives, security teams, and developers.
You'll need at least seven years in system or database administration, network engineering, or software development with a cybersecurity focus (or five years plus a relevant degree). An active TS/SCI clearance is required due to the elevated-access nature of the work. Splunk certifications are valued but not mandatory. The position is full-time, in-office in Washington, DC, with a salary range of $94,000 to $187,600.
