About this role
Leading 84.51°'s Agentic Foundations team means owning the technical backbone that enables AI agents across the Kroger enterprise. You'd partner with product leadership to design platforms, registries, and tooling that help engineers and data scientists build, deploy, and monitor agents at scale. This requires deep expertise in production AI systems—from design and evaluation through deployment and observability—combined with the ability to abstract complex infrastructure into usable APIs and interfaces.
The role demands hands-on technical leadership of engineering teams, including hiring, offshore team management, and mentoring senior engineers through ambiguous, high-stakes problems. You'll make critical decisions on architecture, reliability, and incident response without escalation, while staying current on agentic workflows and frameworks to inform what the team builds next. Success means reducing development friction through smart tooling choices and fostering an environment where engineers can move fast on enterprise-grade solutions.
You'll need seven-plus years building scalable cloud systems with strong SDLC and MLOps chops, including hands-on experience with production agentic systems and modern AI frameworks. Proficiency with Python, Kubernetes, Terraform, and cloud platforms like Azure and Google Cloud is essential, as is a track record leading technical teams and translating research into products. A degree in software engineering, computer science, machine learning, or related field is required. The position is based in Cincinnati with a full in-office schedule and offers a salary range of $162,000–$262,000 plus variable compensation.
