Description

About Nebius:

Nebius is leading a new era in cloud infrastructure for the global AI economy. We are building a full-stack AI cloud platform that supports developers and enterprises from data and model training through to production deployment, without the cost and complexity of building large in-house AI/ML infrastructure.

Built by engineers, for engineers. From large-scale GPU orchestration to inference optimization, we own the hard problems across compute, storage, networking and applied AI.

Listed on Nasdaq (NBIS) and headquartered in Amsterdam, we have a global footprint with R&D hubs across Europe, the UK, North America and Israel. Our team of 1,500+ includes hundreds of engineers with deep expertise across hardware, software and AI R&D.

As an Electrical Design Engineer specialising in high- and medium-voltage systems, you will help design the resilient power infrastructure behind Nebius AI data centers across EMEA. You will work from early concept and site development through detailed design, construction, commissioning and operational handover.

This is a hands-on technical role for an engineer who can make sound design decisions, challenge consultant proposals and turn demanding GPU workload requirements into safe, scalable and buildable electrical systems.

What you will own

  • Develop and review electrical designs for new data center builds, expansions and major infrastructure upgrades across EMEA.
  • Own HV and MV design inputs from utility point of connection through substations, transformers, switchgear and downstream distribution.
  • Produce and review design criteria, single-line diagrams, load schedules, equipment specifications, protection philosophies and basis-of-design documentation.
  • Evaluate power capacity, redundancy and distribution strategies for high-density AI environments, including N, N+1 and 2N configurations.
  • Review technical submissions from design consultants, colocation partners, contractors and equipment vendors, identifying gaps, risks and practical alternatives.
  • Coordinate electrical design with mechanical, controls, network, hardware, civil and architectural workstreams so the complete solution is buildable, maintainable and scalable.
  • Support equipment strategy and selection for transformers, MV and LV switchgear, UPS systems, generators, busway and associated protection and control systems.
  • Lead or review power-system studies, including load flow, short-circuit, protection coordination, arc-flash, earthing, harmonics and power-quality assessments.
  • Ensure design compliance with applicable IEC and EN standards, local grid requirements, national regulations and Nebius engineering standards.
  • Support procurement, factory acceptance testing, site acceptance testing, construction queries, commissioning and final handover to operations.
  • Capture lessons learned and contribute to repeatable reference designs, specifications and technical playbooks for rapid EMEA deployment.

What success looks like

  • Electrical design risks are identified and resolved before they affect cost, programme or energisation.
  • HV and MV systems meet capacity, resilience, safety and maintainability requirements from day one.
  • Consultants and suppliers receive clear decisions, standards and technical direction.
  • Designs progress efficiently from concept to construction and through commissioning without loss of design intent.

What you will bring

  • A degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Typically 5 or more years of electrical design experience in data centers, mission-critical facilities, utilities or large industrial environments.
  • Strong practical knowledge of HV and MV distribution, substations, transformers, switchgear, protection systems, earthing and utility interconnection.
  • Experience producing or reviewing construction-ready electrical design documentation and technical specifications.
  • A solid understanding of UPS systems, generators, LV distribution and the interaction between facility power systems and high-density IT loads.
  • Working knowledge of relevant IEC and EN standards and the ability to interpret local codes and grid requirements across different EMEA markets.
  • Experience with power-system analysis software such as ETAP, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, SKM or equivalent.
  • Strong technical judgement, attention to detail and the ability to explain complex trade-offs clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Fluent professional English and willingness to travel across EMEA.

It would be an advantage if you have

  • Experience with hyperscale, neocloud, GPU-dense or liquid-cooled data center environments.
  • Experience with EPMS, BMS or SCADA integration and electrical commissioning.
  • Knowledge of long-lead electrical equipment strategy and vendor qualification.
  • Chartered Engineer status or an equivalent professional engineering certification.
  • Experience with BIM, Revit or model-based multidisciplinary design coordination.

Benefits & Perks:

  • Competitive compensation
  • Career growth and learning opportunities
  • Flexibility and ownership
  • Collaborative and innovative culture
  • Opportunity to work on impactful AI projects
  • International environment and talented teams

About this role

Nebius is building AI cloud infrastructure at scale, and this role puts you at the center of the power systems engineering that makes it possible. As an Electrical Design Engineer specializing in MV and HV systems, you'll own the electrical architecture for new data center builds and expansions across EMEA—from utility connection through substations, transformers and switchgear down to final distribution. You'll move fluidly between early-stage design decisions, technical reviews of consultant and vendor proposals, power-system studies, and hands-on support through construction and commissioning. This is a technical leadership position where you'll set standards, challenge assumptions and ensure designs remain buildable, safe and aligned with the extreme power demands of GPU-dense environments.

The role demands 5+ years of electrical design experience in data centers or mission-critical infrastructure, with solid grounding in HV/MV distribution, protection systems, earthing and utility interconnection. You'll need to produce and review construction-ready documentation, interpret IEC and EN standards across multiple EMEA markets, and work comfortably with power-system analysis tools like ETAP or PowerFactory. Beyond technical depth, you'll coordinate across mechanical, network, controls and civil teams, explain complex trade-offs clearly, and distill lessons learned into repeatable design playbooks.

If you have hyperscale data center experience, familiarity with GPU-intensive or liquid-cooled environments, or background in electrical commissioning and SCADA integration, you'll have an advantage. The role is based in Amsterdam and requires in-office presence, along with willingness to travel across EMEA.
