About this role
Applied Engineering is looking for an Electrical Design Engineer to lead custom low- and medium-voltage projects from their Waukesha office. You'd own the technical design work end-to-end: interpreting customer requirements and specifications, creating schematics and control system designs, developing bills of material, and coordinating with suppliers and manufacturing teams. The role demands hands-on expertise in power system control schemes (transfer control, load management, generator control, microgrid, SCADA), PLC and HMI programming, AutoCAD, and compliance with electrical codes like NEC, NFPA, and UL standards.
This position suits someone with at least five years of electrical design experience who can work independently on complex problems while collaborating across engineering, purchasing, and production. You'll need a solid foundation in low- and medium-voltage systems, automation controls, and component specification, plus the ability to troubleshoot and commission systems in the field. The company emphasizes variety, problem-solving, and a learning mindset—you'd be expected to research emerging technologies and adapt to shifting priorities across multiple projects serving the Milwaukee metro region.
Applied Engineering is employee-owned and offers a structured career path with tiered compensation ($40–$47/hour for Engineer I, scaling up with experience), 401k, continuing education support, paid overtime, and comprehensive benefits. The role is full-time, in-office in Waukesha, and open to candidates from the broader Milwaukee area and beyond.
