About this role
American Equity's Investment Accounting Lead role centers on managing the accounting and reporting of investment portfolios across the company and its affiliates, with a focus on GAAP and Statutory compliance. You'll own the preparation of quarterly investment results packages, handle derivative accounting processes, and work closely with third-party service providers and internal stakeholders to ensure accuracy and timeliness. The position also involves designing and documenting SOX controls, supporting audits, and driving process improvements—all with minimal management oversight.
This role requires five years of progressively responsible accounting or finance experience, ideally with exposure to investment accounting systems like Clearwater, BlackRock Aladdin, and Workiva. A CPA is preferred. You'll need strong Excel skills, a solid grasp of GAAP and Statutory accounting rules, and the ability to manage competing priorities independently in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate combines technical accounting depth with the communication skills needed to collaborate across the organization and explain complex investment data to senior management and auditors.
Based in Des Moines with no direct reports, this is a full-time, in-office position suited to someone ready to take ownership of a core accounting function within a large insurance and annuity company.
