About this role
Ascension's Indianapolis location is seeking an Associate Chaplain to deliver spiritual and pastoral care across its northeast ministry. You would assess and provide care to patients, families, and staff; offer prayer, blessings, and ethical consultation; and help shape the spiritual programming that supports the health system's Catholic mission. The role involves direct patient and family engagement alongside collaboration with medical teams on values-centered decision-making.
This position requires at least one unit of Clinical Pastoral Education accreditation (ACPE, CPEI, or CPSP), with two units preferred. A bachelor's degree in theology, divinity, pastoral studies, social work, or a related field is the preferred educational foundation, though the minimum requirement is a high school diploma. Two years of healthcare experience is preferred but not required, making this accessible to those with strong pastoral training who may be newer to the healthcare setting.
You'd be joining a large nonprofit Catholic health system recognized for workplace culture and employee support. This is a full-time, in-office role suited to someone called to spiritual ministry within a structured healthcare environment and comfortable working across diverse patient populations and clinical contexts.
