About this role
BHE Renewables is looking for a Field Service Technician to support compression equipment operations in the Carlsbad area. This role combines hands-on maintenance and troubleshooting with mentoring and compliance oversight. You'll handle preventive maintenance on compression systems and related subsystems, diagnose operational problems, train other technicians, and evaluate their competency against federal operator qualification standards. The position also involves managing vendor relationships and procurement for specialized services tied to your projects.
The ideal candidate has a high school diploma and mechanical background, ideally with three years of gas compression experience and certifications from manufacturers like CAT, Waukesha, or Ariel. You'll need strong problem-solving skills, the ability to read technical manuals and engineering standards, and proficiency with diagnostic tools and software—from Fluke test equipment to compressor alignment and performance analysis programs. Bilingual capability is a plus, as is solid computer literacy in standard office and specialized applications.
This is a demanding field role requiring you to work in remote locations, sometimes alone and in hazardous conditions including high-pressure gas exposure and adverse weather. You must be 21 or older with a valid driver's license, able to pass a commercial motor vehicle physical, and comfortable with manual labor—hand tool work, climbing, heavy lifting, and working in tight spaces. The position is full-time with mandatory on-call rotations and after-hours availability, including occasional out-of-area travel. While listed as remote, the nature of the work means significant time in the field.
