About this role
Ascension's CVICU travel position in Austin demands expertise in managing the most critically ill cardiac patients—those in cardiogenic shock requiring advanced mechanical support. You'll work with ECMO, Impella, IABP, and VAD systems while titrating complex medication regimens based on real-time hemodynamic data. The role centers on post-operative cardiac surgery patients, including those recovering from CABG, valve replacement, and transplant, where your ability to recognize and respond rapidly to life-threatening complications like tamponade or severe arrhythmias directly impacts survival.
This is a contract travel assignment suited for RNs with at least one year of acute care experience and demonstrated competency in advanced cardiac device management—specifically IABP and Impella experience. You'll need an active RN license (compact or Texas state), BLS certification within 30 days of start, and ACLS within 180 days. A nursing diploma or equivalent is required. The role is based in-office at an Ascension facility, part of a large nonprofit Catholic health system known for supporting its clinical staff.
