About this role

Supporting the New York Times newsroom's senior leadership requires someone with at least five years of administrative experience in demanding, complex environments who can thrive amid constant change. You'd manage calendars and logistics for the masthead editor overseeing newsroom strategy, operations and finance, plus one additional masthead editor, while coordinating across departments, drafting correspondence, tracking priorities, and handling everything from expense reconciliation to international travel arrangements. The role demands sophisticated judgment, discretion with sensitive information, and the ability to anticipate needs before they become urgent.

This is fundamentally an operational role at the center of the newsroom's leadership. You'll spend four to five days per week on-site in New York, providing real-time support to senior editors and serving as a professional liaison between newsroom leaders, department heads, and external partners. Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential, as is proficiency in Google Suite and the ability to build relationships across the organization.

The ideal candidate brings genuine interest in journalism and media alongside their administrative expertise. If you have prior experience in a news or media organization, that's valued. The position offers a base salary of $75,000 to $90,000, along with standard New York Times benefits including health coverage, 401(k) matching, paid leave, and professional development support.
