Description
Staff Software Engineer
Location: San Francisco, CA (Hybrid, 3 days/week in office)
Dealpath is the AI powered operating system for institutional real estate investing, purpose built to help the world's leading firms capture more opportunities, make faster decisions, and execute with precision.
As a Staff Software Engineer here, you'll set technical direction for the platform that firms managing trillions in real assets rely on every day. You'll lead our most complex initiatives, shape how our engineering team builds with AI, and raise the bar for everyone around you. We're looking for an engineer who stays hands on, thinks like an owner, and wants to help shape the way the built world transacts.
You're excited about this opportunity because you'll
- Lead high impact initiatives: drive complex, multi team projects from concept to production, owning the technical approach and the outcome
- Shape technical direction: influence architecture, system design, and best practices across the engineering organization
- Set the standard for building with AI: use Claude Code, Cursor, and others as a core part of how you work, and lead how the broader team adopts them to ship faster without sacrificing quality
- Raise the bar on code quality: define and uphold standards for correctness, security, performance, and maintainability, for hand written and AI generated code alike
- Partner across the business: work closely with product, design, and quality to define technical requirements and shape what gets built
- Scale the platform: find opportunities to improve reliability, performance, and team efficiency, and drive them to completion
- Grow other engineers: mentor senior and earlier career engineers through design reviews, code reviews, and pairing, building judgment across the team
We're excited that you have
- Advanced AI fluency: you direct tools like Claude Code or Cursor at a high level, build repeatable workflows around them, and help others do the same
- Technical leadership: you lead without needing authority, align engineers around a direction, and make sound architectural calls under ambiguity
- Strong code review judgment: you hold AI generated code to the same standard as hand written code and teach others to catch bugs, edge cases, security gaps, and performance issues before they ship
- Product sense: you think about the user and the business, not just the implementation, and connect technical decisions to customer outcomes
- Systems thinking: deep grasp of system design, scaling, and the tradeoffs between performance, reliability, and data integrity
- Clear communication: you articulate technical tradeoffs to engineers, leadership, and non technical partners alike
- Mentorship orientation: you give feedback that builds judgment in others, not just fixes the immediate issue
Qualifications
- BS in Computer Science or Software Engineering, or equivalent work experience
- 10+ years of professional software engineering experience, including full stack development
- Proven expertise building scalable web application back ends: Ruby on Rails, Flask, Node, or similar
- Advanced front end experience: React, Angular, Vue, or similar
- Hands on experience with AI assisted development tools (Cursor, Claude Code, or similar) in production work, with a track record of driving adoption and productivity gains across an engineering team
- Demonstrated experience leading complex initiatives across teams from concept to production
- Experience mentoring engineers and influencing architectural decisions
Nice to have
- Experience integrating LLM APIs or building AI workflows in production
- Experience with distributed systems, event driven architectures, or cloud platforms like AWS
- Background in high growth SaaS
- Interest in commercial real estate or fintech

About this role
Dealpath is building the operating system for institutional real estate investing, and this Staff role puts you at the center of that platform's technical evolution. You'd own complex, multi-team initiatives from architecture through production, setting standards for how the engineering organization builds—especially around AI-assisted development. This isn't a management track; you stay hands-on while influencing direction across systems design, code quality, and team practices.
The role demands someone with 10+ years of full stack experience who's already proven they can lead without formal authority and mentor engineers through design and code review. You'll need advanced fluency with AI tools like Claude Code and Cursor, ideally with a track record of driving adoption across teams. Deep expertise in scalable web backends (Rails, Node, Flask) and modern frontends (React, Vue, Angular) is essential, along with the judgment to hold AI-generated code to the same standard as hand-written work.
This suits engineers who think like owners, connect technical decisions to business outcomes, and want to shape how a team scales. You'd work hybrid from San Francisco (three days in office), with a base range of $220–260k plus equity. The platform powers over $10 trillion in transactions for firms like Blackstone and Nuveen, so the stakes and scope are real.
