About this role
Speechify is looking for a Senior Android Engineer to lead development on its Android app—currently the most-used text-to-speech application in the Play Store. You'd own major features end-to-end, working closely with design and product teams to deliver high-quality releases while maintaining reliability metrics and supporting a growing user base. The role involves technical leadership within a flat organization where strong execution and communication can establish you as a leader, plus hands-on work reviewing code, handling critical issues, and driving improvements to the codebase and user experience.
The ideal candidate has 5+ years of software engineering experience with deep expertise in Kotlin, Coroutines, Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, and Clean Architecture. You should be comfortable with Android-specific work—background services, animations, Jetpack Navigation, custom views—and have a track record of building or significantly contributing to at least one shipped Android app. Beyond technical chops, you need product intuition, user empathy, and the self-drive to improve things beyond the spec; experience with open source or other platforms like iOS or web is a bonus.
This is an in-office role based in Phoenix, Arizona, with a salary range of $140,000–$200,000 plus bonus and stock. Speechify operates as a 100% distributed company globally, though this specific position requires on-site presence. The team values work ethic, fast execution, and obsession with winning in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment where you'd directly impact millions of users, many with learning differences like dyslexia and ADD.
