About this role
Onsemi's Applications Engineer role centers on bridging the gap between its power management product line and the customers who use them. You'd provide escalated technical support to key accounts and field application engineers, troubleshoot real-world implementation issues with DC-DC converters and controllers, and validate that new products work as intended in customer applications. The work spans the full product lifecycle—from collaborating with design and product teams on requirements for new offerings, to creating training materials, application notes, and customer-facing collateral like evaluation boards and design guides.
This position calls for a solid foundation in power electronics and switching converter design, backed by three to ten-plus years of hands-on experience. You'll need to be fluent in simulation tools like SIMPLIS, comfortable with schematic and PCB layout work in Altium, and capable of effective circuit debugging in the lab. Strong communication skills matter as much as technical depth, since you'll be authoring documentation, presenting to internal teams, and representing the business unit through product development cycles.
The role is based in San Jose and requires in-office presence, with travel kept to a minimum. It suits someone who enjoys solving customer problems at a technical level and can move fluidly between supporting existing products and shaping the next generation.
