About this role
Leading Farnsworth Group's construction management expansion across Northern Illinois means building both a thriving practice and the teams behind it. You'll oversee project delivery and financial performance on transportation, municipal, water, and infrastructure work while serving as Liaison or Resident Engineer on major projects. The role demands equal parts technical credibility and business acumen—developing client relationships with IDOT, Illinois Tollway, municipalities, and transit agencies; identifying and pursuing new opportunities; and mentoring project managers, resident engineers, and inspection staff across the firm's various groups.
This is a contract position suited to someone with 15+ years delivering construction management services on public agency projects, ideally with a PE license and demonstrated leadership of engineering or inspection programs. You'll need strong communication and relationship-building skills, proven success in business development and project management, and the ability to work across multidisciplinary teams. Established connections in the Northern Illinois infrastructure market and experience managing complex projects and staff development are significant assets.
The role is based in Chicago and requires in-office presence. Compensation ranges from $140,000 to $197,000 based on qualifications. Farnsworth Group offers a comprehensive benefits package including 401(k) matching, health insurance, professional development, and a hybrid work program, and has earned Great Place to Work certification for eleven consecutive years.
