Your opportunity for impact:
In this role, your primary impact comes from designing, driving, and operating our internal AI infrastructure. This includes managing our AI Gateway, MCP servers, agentic workflows, and the supporting cloud services that let NetDocuments teams safely adopt AI in their day-to-day work.
What your contributions will be:
You'll operate the AI gateway that fronts internal large language model traffic, including identity integration with Microsoft Entra ID, API key management, and the availability, latency, and capacity of the service. You'll build and maintain the MCP servers and agentic workflows that connect internal systems and data to AI tools, establishing the patterns and guardrails that keep them secure as they move from prototype to production.
You'll partner with our Corporate AI strategy team to get new AI use cases reviewed, approved, and provisioned, coordinating with Security, Compliance, and Legal along the way. When something breaks, you're the first responder, and you'll maintain the runbooks and cross-training that keep that response from depending on any one person. You also own the reporting arm of the platform, and you'll document it well enough that it doesn't live only in your head.
Required experience and education:
- 4-5 years running a cloud production service that other teams depend on, including on-call ownership (AWS or Azure)
- Experience with authentication and access management (OIDC, OAuth, SAML, or similar)
- Backend engineering in Python or Go, with infrastructure as code and containerized deployment
- Hands-on experience with AI tooling or agentic systems, such as MCP servers or AI agents
- Familiarity with observability practices like metrics, logging, and tracing
- Strong documentation and cross-team communication skills
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
Ideally you will have:
- Experience with an API gateway — this space is still new, so general familiarity matters more than depth with any specific product
- Microsoft Entra ID specifically, as it is our identity provider
- Large language model API behavior, including token accounting, streaming, and context limits
- Data loss prevention or data classification on a request path
- SOC 2, ISO 27001, or FedRAMP environments
- SQL or Snowflake

About this role
NetDocuments is looking for a Platform Engineer to own the internal AI infrastructure that enables their legal technology teams to safely adopt AI tools. You'd operate the AI gateway managing large language model traffic, build and maintain the systems connecting internal data to AI applications, and coordinate with security and compliance as new use cases move from prototype to production. This is a hands-on role where you're the first responder when things break, responsible for maintaining runbooks and documentation that keep the platform running reliably.
The position requires 4–5 years running production cloud services on AWS or Azure with on-call ownership, backend engineering in Python or Go, and hands-on experience with AI tooling like MCP servers or agents. You'll need solid grounding in authentication systems, infrastructure as code, and observability practices. Experience with API gateways, Microsoft Entra ID, LLM API behavior, and compliance environments like SOC 2 would be valuable. A Computer Science degree or equivalent practical experience is expected.
